The Bagmati Province-Level Dialogue on “Localizing Climate Action: A Gender Lens on Public Commons Conservation and Justice” was successfully held in Hetauda on 23rd December 2024. Organized by Makwanpur Mahila Samuha, Chitwan Sakriya Women’s Foundation, and ActionAid Nepal alongside key partners, the event brought together over 185 participants—including policymakers, activists, and community leaders—to advance gender-inclusive climate justice. Highlights included presentations like Kabita Basnet’s (ActionAid Nepal) analysis of Nepal’s climate policies, exhibitions of grassroots innovations, and strong commitments from provincial leaders, including Chief Minister Bahadur Singh Lama. The dialogue produced 26 actionable points, reinforcing the need to center marginalized voices, particularly women, in climate decision-making for resilient, equitable futures.

Manhari Rural Municipality concluded its 16 Days of Activism campaign by advocating for informal women workers’ rights and safer workplaces. Authorities received an appeal letter demanding better protections, while a new GBV service map identified local support providers. The Deputy Chairperson released a brochure detailing available services, and the Judicial Committee documented dispute resolution options to strengthen access to justice.

Makwanpur Mahila Utthan Samaj a dialogue program with 23 informal women workers from Manhari Rural Municipality. Key speakers included Nepal Trade Union President Khalin Miya, JIFONT Makwanpur Chair Arjun Aryal, and local government representatives. Participants highlighted issues like delayed wages, longer working hours, and lower pay compared to male workers. They also raised concerns about lack of accident treatment access and demanded a labor desk for support. The event was chaired by Kamala Subedi, President of Makwanpur Women’s Union.
